Project Overview
Cultural Immersion Trip
My project was a six-day trip to the Four Corners area of Utah, Colorado, Arizona, and New Mexico. I traveled during spring break with a few other students as part of the Rural Health Scholars program from Southern Utah University and other surrounding universities. Together we served in Native American hospitals and clinics with Utah Navajo Health Services. I personally spent all of my time in Blanding Family Vision Clinic. As I participated in the healthcare setting that was provided, I left with more certainty that Optometry is the best course for my career path. I also gained more factual knowledge, obtained more information about Optometry school, the pros and cons to Optometry as a profession, and grew in my social skills. I also learned more about what I would like to do in a personal practice when I have my own one day. Learning from Dr. Kirk, his staff, and their structure helped me to further have a vision for what I hope to one day accomplish and become. Lastly, I had the chance to make new connections, friendships, and acquaintances that will benefit me in the future.
